What is the situation for victims of environmental pollution in Guizhou?

The first activity within the scope of the EGP-Guizhou project is to conduct a baseline survey in order to investigate the current status of environmental justice in Guizhou. This effort is now well underway, as a questionnaire among the public and interviews with all important target groups are beginning to provide input to the baseline survey.

The goal of the baseline survey is to investigate the current status of environmental justice in Guizhou and to identify the needs and constraints faced by the target groups. The knowledge gained from this survey will be the basis for the following efforts to increase awareness and capacity among citizens and stakeholders. A literature andlegal document study has established the basic parameters for the interview survey, and interviews are now being conducted in Guiyang as a first step towards investigating the current status of environmental justice in Guizhou.

Project Manager Mikael Olshammar from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute as well as researchers Erik Lindblom and Anja Karlsson will within short be traveling to China in order to exchange knowledge and expertise with other project partners and to finalize the Inception Report. They will also participate in the 2nd annual national conference of the EU-China Environmental Governance Programme (EGP) in Beijing.
